DescriptionThe Environmental laboratory provides research and teaching facilities for analyzing the chemical and physical properties of surface and ground water, soils, sediments, biological samples, rock digests and experimental solutions. The laboratory contributes to major research programs in Environmental Geology, Hydrogeology, Climate Research and Geochemistry. The analytical facilities are partly shared with the Department of Chemistry. The laboratory provides analytical services for the Department of Geosciences and Geography, Department of Chemistry and the Finnish Museum of Natural History. The laboratory participates regularly in the NIva intercalibration exercise. The analytical methods conform to SFS, ISO and EPA standards.
Components of the research infrastructureInstrumentation includes the following: 1) Agilent 7500 ICP-MS and Agilent MP-AES 4200 for elemental analysis of solutions; 2) Agilent 1260 Infinity HPLC with LC-ICP-MS coupling for speciation analysis; 3) Tandem Methrohm MIC-12 IC, DR Lange 5000 UV/VIS and Titroline 5000 titrator; 4) sample preparation facilities including Cem Microwave oven, sample filtration systems, and freeze-dryers; 5) field equipment for sampling and analysis of ground water, soils and sediments and determination of in situ parameters
