Description of research and teaching

Anette is an information and communication law expert. She conducts post-doc research at the Faculty of Law, University of Helsinki. She is particularly interested in legal dimensions and theoretical aspects of new media, the Internet and social media as well as (digital) copyright, privacy, data protection and data security. She is also especially interested in European level instruments and EU law as well as in relations between non-legal and legal elements. Her research situates in the field of media and technology law, while often focusing on the intertwined technological, economic, and/or other socio-cultural dimensions.

Anette is involved in multi- and interdisciplinary research cooperation. Currently, Anette conducts research on news automation. Moreover, she is part of a research project called Communication rights in the age of digital disruption (CoRDi), funded by the Academy of Finland, where she concentrates on news automation, among others. In 2016-19 Anette is also a member of a research project (Emil Aaltonen Foundation) focusing on the changing notion of authorship whereby she concentrates on various forms of manifestation of 'fairness' and 'good practices' as legal concepts in the context of visual arts. Previously, Anette has worked for a research project funded by Academy of Finland, called Information Security of Location Estimation and Navigation Applications (INSURE), and examining location data (MyGeoTrust; Business Finland). She has been a visiting scholar at Aalto university in a project around MyData, a legal scholar at the University of Lapland around the theme of industrial internet,  as well as a member of ia a research group in a project, financed by the Academy of Finland, called "Facing the Coordination Challenge - Problems, Policies, and Politics in Media and Communications Regulation".

Anette has provided national expertise in many global and EU-wide studies (eg European Audiovisual Observatory). Anette is responsible for IP law teaching (bachelor, IBL), among others, and she coordinates teaching within Private Law II module. She also teaches Laws of the Digital Era. Anette has lectured and taught cources in media law and copyright law as well as on IP law (as part of commercial law). She has also been a teacher tutor in the course "Basics of Legal Thinking" a few times. Anette has been in charge of the MICL IBL Research Seminar for law students (IP and Competition Law). She has also participated in a thesis tutoring trial as a tutor for a doctoral candidate. Currently, Anette acts as a second supervisor for three doctoral candidates.

Anette has completed minor in management at the University of Helsinki (2003-2005).

Anette has been an alternate member of the Teaching Skills Assessment Committee, Faculty of Law, since 2010. She also has education in the field of university pedagogy as follows:
