Description of research and teaching

As an assistant professor in Russian big data methodology, I utilize my background in interdisciplinary Russian studies and expertise in digital humanities to encourage students, scholars and practitioners to take advantage of constantly growing amounts of data on Russia and in Russian to gain new insights
During eight years of scholarly work on maritime transportation and energy, I have focused on policymaking activities of private actors, environmental sustainability and large infrastructure governance. My research increasingly engages with how Russian society, politics and culture are reconfigured in the context of digitalisation, Big Data and algorithmic governance, specifically in the context of sustainability transformation. My teaching includes courses on regional governance, digital methods in human sciences and mixed methods research design.
My newest initiative, Digital Russia Studies (http://blogs.helsinki.fi/digital-russia-studies/) is a  research network uniting scholars of humanities, social and computer sciences working at the intersection of ‘digital’ and ‘social’ in the Russian context.
