Description of research and teaching

I work as a postdoctoral researcher in the Mycorrhizal Interactions group led by Sari Timonen at the Department of Food and Environmental Sciences. I am interested in microbial processes that underpin larger biological processes in the environment. I study the abundance, distribution and gene expression of microbial populations to find out how microbes interact with their environment and with each other. I also work to to identify specific metabolic strategies that enable certain microbial populations to thrive in their habitats.

My current research focuses on Archaea associated with mycorrhiza in the roots of Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris). I work on quantifying the the archaeal populations in the (myco)rhizosphere and I use single cell techniques and genomic analysis to study their metabolic potential.

I have served as a guest lecturer in classes MIKRO241 and MIKRO510.
