Curriculum Vitae

Leo Granberg is Professor Emeritus in the Humanistic Faculty (Aleksanteri Institute) of the University of Helsinki. He worked as the Professor of Rural Studies in Social Sciences in University of Helsinki 2005-2013 and as a scholar in the Finnish Centre of Excellence Choices of Russian Modernisation 2013-2017. He is also affiliated to the Centre of Russian and Eurasian Studies in Uppsala University. He has made field research in Russian countryside and small towns since 2002. His research focus is on social change in Russia. Also, he has studied rural development in other ex-socialist countries, food systems and rural urban relations.

He has written book The Other Russia, local experience and social change (Routledge, 2017), together with Ann-Mari Sätre, and co-edited among others books Metropolitan Ruralities (Emerald, 2016) together with Kjell Andersson, Stefan Sjöblom et al., Evaluating the European Approach to Rural Development, Grass-roots Experiences of the LEADER Programme (Ashgate, 2015) together with Kjell Andersson and Imre Kovách; Sakha Ynaga – Cattle of the Yakuts (Finnish Academy of Sciences and Letters, 2009) together with Juha Kantanen and Katriina Soini, and Europe’s green Ring (Ashgate, 2001) together with Imre Kovách and Hilary Tovey.
