Marianna Vivitsou


Description of research and teaching

Currently I am working as post-doctoral researcher in CICERO Learning, Research Unit at the University of Helsinki, where I was employed initially as doctoral researcher in 2012-2015. Also, I worked as post-doctoral researcher for the Institute of Behavioral Sciences, University of Helsinki in 2015-16. During this time, I have gained experience by getting involved in different projects, such as FINNABLE 2020 (Boundless classroom & Digital storytelling), Systemic Learning Solutions & MoViSTEM, and the Sino-Finnish Project, in collaboration with Peking University and Beijing Normal University. So far, one main focus of my research has been the intersection of social media and digital technologies with pedagogy. Another research interest is storytelling with digital technologies as a multimodal meaning making experience. I have been teaching assistant for research methodology doctoral courses led by Professor P. Ilsley at the Faculty of Behavioral Sciences, HU (2012-2014). During the courses, I was responsible for the digital aspect by setting and maintaining web-based spaces for collaborative work and exchanges and organizing and coordinating live broadcasts for participant access from distance. During Fall 2016 I taught a course on ‘Intercultural education and social media’, Also, nowadaysI am organizing a course for Helsinki Summer School on ‘21st-century Digital storytelling’. Before I moved to Finland I taught English as a foreign language in secondary schools and in Higher educational institutions in Greece (1997-2010).
